Zinnia Smart (violin)
Keith Bray (viola)
Violist Keith Bray and violinist Zinnia Smart met during their studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where they developed a shared passion for chamber music.
Together they have performed at venues and events across Birmingham and the surrounding area, bringing live music to a wide range of audiences. They also play as part of a number of larger ensembles both in and out of the conservatoire, including: string quartets, chamber orchestras, string orchestras and symphony orchestras. Most recently, they performed at Coventry Hospital, sharing the uplifting and restorative power of music with patients, visitors and staff.
Alongside their work on modern instruments, Keith and Zinnia have an interest in Baroque music, performing on period instruments and exploring the distinctive sound and style of early music. They also enjoy folk music and are part of Joe Broughton's Conservatoire Folk Ensemble.
Ciara Thompson (piano)
Ciara Thompson is a pianist at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire currently pursuing undergraduate studies with Professor John Thwaites. She explores a diverse range of repertoire and inspiration which influence not only her performance but composition as well which she is passionate about bringing to new audiences and the next generation of musicians.
Vanessa Gunter (flute)
Robin Walker (piano)
Vanessa Gunter studied the flute in Oxford with Stephen James and Katey Thomas. She enjoyed a period as an National Youth Orchestra principal before taking up a scholarship place at Trinity College of Music. She has won a number of prizes, including the Muir Mathieson Memorial Prize, the Dame Ruth Railton prize and the Harold Clarke prize for Woodwind.
She has enjoyed playing with a number of local orchestras and ensembles, including the Midsummer Quartet and Ringerike Ceilidh Band. She is a member of Nova Orchestra Classica, a Midlands based chamber orchestra specialising in C18th and C19th music. Vanessa is an experienced soloist and has given many recitals locally, working with pianists Barry Stone and Janine Parsons, and harpist Jan Scarrott, with whom she has enjoyed extending the flute and harp repertoire through exploring folk/rock fusion.
Vanessa worked for many years as Head of Wind and Brass and later as Head of Music at King's St Alban's.
